| Suze Maze, Licensed Clinical Social Worker |
Broader Horizons Counseling is owned and operated by Suze Maze, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified in Gambling Addictions and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.
Her first career was as a jockey, exercise rider and trainer in the thoroughbred racing industry. She rode over 400 races at racetracks in West Virginia and Maryland. After a career-ending injury, she completed a Masters Degree at The University of Kentucky in Social Work. Upon graduating she worked on the backside at racetracks helping those that put on the races. Other work experiences include The Hope Center for Women and The Ridge Behavioral Health.
Broader Horizons Counselors utilize a strength-based approach with emphasis in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Individual, Group or Family sessions can be done in a traditional therapy setting, with offices in Fayette and Jessamine County. Specializations include Mental Health, Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Addictions. We are state licensed in Kentucky for Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Treatment Counseling.
Non-traditional, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is offered for adults and teens at a serene horse farm location off Winchester Road, 10 minutes from Hamburg Place. The focus of EAP is not about riding horses, but doing problem solving exercises on the ground with the horse as a partner. This powerful therapy is proving to be successful due to the large amount of information that comes forth from reading non-verbal language of clients. This approach has been compared to the ropes courses used by therapists, treatment facilities, and human development courses around the world.
